Slaves1

The fugitive slave act put slaves in a bad situation in both sections. I mean since the acts were for the white slave owners who lost some slaves it was great. I mean it the slave owner could just find some black slave and then call them their own. It had to be horrible in many cases for free slaves.In the first section if a white man was looking for a couple of slaves then he would call them his own. Just that if the slave was a free slave he would have no chance to testify in his own behalf. The slave act is just another way to keep the black man down. So if you think about it ever when you are free you are a slave because of the fugitive slave act. The second section was just ridiculous because all the white slave owners had to do was to go into any court of record in the state that the slave supposedly came escaped from, and swear to the identity and his ownership of the fugitive. In my opinion both of the sections are unfair to blacks. Both sections don’t give slaves the right or opportunity to defend them selves. Slave owners tried to move into middle Florida with high expectation shortly after the territory was acquired. The slave owner knew that they had a chance of running into trouble with their slaves. The three areas that the slaves had trouble with the owners were religious behavior, interpersonal relations and work.
