There were numerous problems confronting England and their relationship with the colonies during that period of time. England dealt with these problems by taking measures that worked mostly to the disidvantage of the colonies. The colonies did not take these measures in a favorable fashion and this At the beginning of 1763, the British government took several important steps to deal with the new territories. Also steps were taken to protect the old colonies as well as ways to maintain peace with the indians. England believed that keeping a large number of troops in America during peacetime was a wise idea. In order to do this England developed the passage of Quartering acts that required colonies to provide barracks and supplies for the troops. The presence of troops during peacetime alarmed Americans. They wondered whether the soilders were ther to coerce rather to protect them. Also the colonies would have to pay additional taxes necessary to support the troops. The Proclamation of 1763, was to temporarily forbid white settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. The purpose of the proclamation line was to keep whites and Indians apart, preventing fighting between them, and to keep the colonies closer to the coast where England could more easily control the colonies. This certainly did not bode well with the colonies. The colonies were developing and this proclomation prevented them from expanding to the land which they coveted. England was not only confronted with resistance of the colonies but they were also dealing with problems from the Indians as well. Colonial settlers were displacing Indians from their sacred land.
