Was there opposition to the Nazis

n to the Nazis was illegal(many priests and pastors who bravely resisted were imprisoned or killed) and also the Concordant had signed an agreement for the church not to involve themselves in political affairs in 1933, and in turn the Nazis would deal brutally with the churches opponents, they were more concerned to defend themselves than attack the regime. Similarly the army was a major influence on the German people. They, however, were the only force strong enough to overthrow Hitler. Resistance still was difficult as they felt threatened by the SS, and many of the generals supported the regime due to perks given to them(incentives). The Generals also thought they could control Hitler, and as he hated the Treaty of Versailles they believed they were united with Hitler and the Nazis. The Army were also forced to make an oath of loyalty and commitment to the Nazis, and initially they complied. However, when the Army was becoming less committed to the regime it was purged in 1938, this prevented any potential resistance and was an example to all of Germany the power of the Nazis. The army planned many bomb plots to assassinate Hitler from 1942 to 1944, there failures created a loss of morale within the Army. However many of the assassinations were very close to success, most famously, the July 1944 bomb plot, which consisted of three bombs, when it failed 5,000 people were executed. So the Army possessed the means to overthrow the Nazis, but did not due to no support from the mass of the German people or the generals.Hitler foresaw the possible opposition from other political parties by banning them in July 1933. There leaders were arrested, those who were the driving force of the parties and would be the ones to organise any form of resistance.
