The workers were encouraged to join RAD and Strength through joy, their were threats deterring workers from straying the regime. Hitler indoctrinated the lives of the German people in any way possible, he used methods of propaganda such as posters, radio and cinema and made programmes such as Hitler youth compulsory in 1939. An example of this indoctrination of Germans lives is Hitler youth, set up in order to establish Nazi values in the young people from an early age, in a fun way. Those who resisted going to Hitler Youth, and avoided the confinement joined alternative groups formed illegally such as the ‘Edelweiss Pirates’ or swing Groups, who would be severely punished if caught be the Gestapo. The Youths lives were full of activities organised by Hitler Youth, less emphasis was on education, and the structure of education was changed, with more physical exercise and nazi values integrated in all classes. To create the type of Germans the Nazis wanted, men fit for the Army and women fit for bearing children. This shows the extent of the Nazis controlling the public, all Germans knew only too well the punishments of resisting the regime, so therefore it was easier not to. The extent of opposition up to 1943 to the Nazis was little and ineffective as people were happy with their living conditions and did not see a reason to be punished.Hitler appeased the masses and put great punishment on those who strayed the regime. Opposition could mean a German worker would lose their job their freedom, or even their life.
