a middle class job should most likely leave the reservation. This is one reason why Indians have moved to the metro areas. One way to increase jobs on a reservation is to start a business. "In 1987, Indians owned 17,000 businesses and made about $800 million. Eskimos only owned 2, 300 and the Aleuts owned 1,100 businesses" (Thomas, Internet). A large portion of the 400 businesses owned by Natives in Alaska, are located in Native villages. The businesses in California, on the other hand, are located on the reservations.With the expansion of the Indian population, the youth of the Native Americans have many choices to make about their future. They can either be proud to be an American, or proud to be a Native American. If they choose to be an American, they have to leave their reservation and leave their families and then live on their own. They would also be able to get more money and create better lives for themselves. If they choose to stay on the reservation, they could have a chance to have a family and continue with their religious beliefs. If they choose to stay, then they will not have the better life and the wealth of other people off the reservation. "It may well be that many Native views could also become the "mainstream" into the next decade" (Thomas, Internet). As you can see, there are many changes that have happened now compared to when the Native Americans were first put onto the reservation. There has been a huge increase in the population of the Indians and with the increase in population, the Indians have also expanded into other states as well as metropolitan cities. The increase in population was major, as was the increase in education for the Native Americans. They have had major increases in enrollment in colleges and have gone on to get jobs.
