Wearing the High priest’s leopard skin, however, is our good friend Aye. The senior servant of King Tut; and if you look at the painting, you will see that Aye is also wearing a headdress. The Headdress reserved for Royalty. The headdress reserved, in fact, for the Pharoah. But Why? It was much too soon for a new Pharaoh to be appointed. Ankhesenamun would pick her new husband almost 2 years later. And since she survived King Tut, only her chosen husband would become Pharaoh. Being the senior servant, Aye would naturally have been there to look over the paintings on the tomb, and the placement of the objects inside. But he wouldn’t assume the role of Pharaoh until Ankhesenamun married him.But Ankhesenamun wanted nothing to do with Aye. In Fact, she wrote to the Hiritite King to ask for one of his sons as her next husband. The Hiritite King would have nothing to do with it, however. “It is a trick” he wrote. Ankhesenamun wrote back that it was embarrassing enough to have to ask for a prince of another country to become her husband, surely there was no trick. She even stated “I would never ask a servant to marry me.” The King sent his most handsome son to marry Ankhesenamun. But during his journey to Themes, the prince was killed by Horemheb, General of the Egyptian Army. Nobody knows why; but keep that name in your mind if it doesn’t already ring a bell.So, in time, Ankhesenamun married Aye, and Aye became the King of Upper and Lower Egypt.
