This doesn’t mean exclusively by other students, but by administrators and teachers as well. In the case of the Columbine and Thurston and high school shootings, all the shooters in the above listed schools were mistreated by people at school in one way or another. The Thurston shooter was practically ignored when he asked for help at school. In the words of his sister: “He would study for hours and not pass. In first grade, second grade, and third grade, I remember him studying for those spelling tests over and over. I never studied for spelling, and all he wanted to do was pass. And I used to make fun of his writing, because that's what big sisters do. He would confuse his 3s and his Es, and Bs and Ds. He'd write them wrong, and I used to make fun of him, "Ha, ha, ha, you messed up here." The young shooter was having great difficulty at school, and was utterly ignored by his teacher when he cried out for help. Perhaps all his built up frustration and anger was what caused him to snap and bring two guns to school. In the case of the Columbine shootings the two shooters were constantly bullied by the jocks at school. Why were they bullied? Because they were different. It is possible that the shooters found it necessary to “get back” at the jocks in such a violent way that no one would ever want to bully the outsiders anymore.
