.” Mr. Foote and the rest of these gentlemen did not take women’s rights seriously and turned the issue into comedic entertainment for men. Orestes Brownson had a parallel opinion of Mr. Foote as he examined the “feminine character” with a report. “Woman was created to be a wife and a mother; that is her destiny”, said Brownson. He continues by pointing out several things that would destroy he world if women had rights. Brownson ends his report with a rather harsh reference that reads, “—women need a head, and the restraint of a father, husband, or the priest of God.” In other words, he was saying that women have no brain and need guidance from men. They should be treated like slaves and obey their “master.” Women’s rights have progressed tremendously since the movement first began. The movement will continue to progress in society and won’t stop progressing until women are seen as equals to that of men and there is a female president sitting in the oval office of the White House. Women will continue to fight for equal rights just as some men will continue to have jokester attitudes toward women’s rights. Be prepared for the journey to continue, though, as women fight and struggle through the complex diversity of the Women’s Rights movement. ...
