However, Hitler violated this treaty in an effort todominate all of Europe and was denied at the expense of millions of Sovietlives who fought for freedom against his tyranny. Not only did this lead tomillions of deaths and a severe decrease in productivity. Stalin eventuallypassed away in 1953, and the conservative trend would now shifted to a moreliberal form.1953-1964Nikita Krushchev, a dedicated liberal leader, managed to become theleader of the Soviet Union after a conservative mogul by the name ofMalenkov could not gather enough support from the Political Bureau.Krushchev proceeded to moderately alter the rigid, despotic structure ofthe Union and dealt vigorously with other foreign countries. Theimprovement in foreign relations, outer space developments andhousing/employment allowed Krushchev to improve the Soviet economy.
