by social standing or by ones wealth. The different levels of classes had their honor to defend. Social expectations needed to be defended. The family within a class also had a certain honor to defend. Any actions that would defile a family member would defile the honor of the family. The status of the family within the class would be on the line. Still today we have a class system that is mostly dependant upon wealth and occupation. We see these classes as being superior in standing or power.Just as today we see honor as a personal window into the lives of others. This window is the front we put up for others to see and judge for what we are or are not. The different sexes, ethnicities and social classes of Latin America were quite the same. Even though we might view honor in the same way nowadays, we are less likely to react with such brutality or anger. Certainly there are instances of physical retaliation among juveniles, gang members, as well as within the elite classes in society today but nowhere near the magnitude of colonial Latin America. ...
