Legislation passed laws that forbade the Cherokees from mining their own gold, from using their own court systems, and from testifying against whites in court (Perdue 55). They drove them out of there own lands because of the self centered belief of the settlers that they belonged to a privileged culture, one that could only bring good wherever it was introduced (Kelly 41).
