obtain for himself the deliverance from sin and its effects. This could only be accomplished by God: As Isaiah declared: “He became their Savior (Isaiah 63:8), and it is God who is salvation. (Isaiah 12:2; 45:22). Christ became the redeemer, the divine Deliverer of mankind as He declared to Zacchaeus, “Today salvation has come to this house, for this is what it means to be a son of Abraham. The Son of Man has come to search out and save what was lost. (Luke 19:9-10). The entire content of the message of Jesus is one of the salvation of mankind. The Gospel is called the “message of salvation” (Acts 13:26) and the “way of salvation” (Acts 16:17) and this salvation is brought about by God’s power (Romans 1:16).In the New Testament this history takes on a new and fuller understanding. Here we have the time-period of Christ and His apostles, the formative and primitive realization of the Mystical Body. And we have the culmination in the time-period from the resurrection of Christ and the coming of the Holy Spirit to the second coming of Christ in glory, the parousia. When we look at these two New Testament time-periods of salvation history, we see two outstanding features:(1)in the first period Christ was present bodily, teaching and bringing His message to men and women fully and completely;(2)in the second period Christ remains present in His Spirit, and in the Eucharist, beginning His coming again in glory, and the fulfillment of the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 15:35-58; 15:28; 15:26)The history of salvation is one of faith and hope by which the human person comes to a realization and understanding of his role in regard to God the Creator, God the Redeemer, and God as King and ruler of all.
