ing prohibition increased dramatically, the same is going on today with violence related to the sale of marijuana. If marijuana was legalized drug dealers would have almost no product to sell because it would be regulated and taxed by the government. The black market for marijuana would disappear almost overnight(Marshall 91). How often do drug dealers sell cigarettes and alcohol, they dont because these are legal substances.There is still much research to be done on marijuana and its effects on humans. My belief is that marijuana should be legalized because there is no conclusive evidence that it is more harmful than cigarettes or alcohol which are already legal. It is also my belief they should place the same restrictions and regulations on marijuana use as they currently have on cigarettes and alcohol consumption. This would make it safer for the average marijuana consumer and also provide needed tax dollars for the government so they can crack down on really harmful drugs such as heroin and cocaine. My view is summed up best by this quote Adults should be allowed to live as they wish, provided they do not harm others...the government should not outlaw...To do so would be to substitute the governments tastes and moral judgment for those of the individual, and unjustified violation of personal freedom by the state.(qtd. in Nagorney) Which is my point exactly....
