Teen pregnancy has negative consequences for individuals and society, as does the continued occurrence of sexually transmitted disease, particularly HIV/AIDS. As it is highly unlikely that teens will discontinue having sex at earlier and earlier ages, teaching them to act responsibly, in addition to encouraging abstinence, is the most logical and realistic response to the problem.
