Though both of these novels deal with the clash of two widely different cultures, their main characters and settings are very different. Things Fall Apart’s protagonist, Okonkwo, lives in a rural village which has had very little outside contact. Okonkwo dominates the village society through hard work and determination. Obi Okonkwo, No Longer At Ease’s protagonist, lives in Lagos, a growing metropolis which is dominated by white Englishmen. Despite his hard work, Obi is trapped in a cycle of debt.
