Abortion6
Abortion6 Should abortion be legalized? During the past quarter century, abortion has joined race and war as one of the most debatable subjects of controversy in the United States. It discusses human interaction where ethics, emotions and law come together. Abortion poses a moral, social and medical dilemma, that faces many individuals to create a emotional and violent atmosphere. There are many points of view toward abortion but the only two fine distinctions are "pro-choice" and "pro-life." A pro-choicer would feel that the decision to abort a pregnancy is that of the mothers and the state has no right to interfere. A pro-lifer would hold that from the moment conception, the embryo or fetus is alive. They feel it’s a moral obligation to preserve it and that abortion is murder. (Lyons,pg.9) There are some who believe that a woman has the right and choice to have an abortion. There are many circumstances backing this decision. Babies having babies! The majority of teenage girls who get pregnant drop out of high school. If a female gets pregnant, it doesn’t mean she has to be one of those girls that drop out of school because they didn’t have the legal right to have an abortion. If she keeps that child she has a 50% chance to have good life, or 50% chance of having her life being ruined because the government made the choice for her and other females.(Lyons, pg.10) Some of these teenage girls have abortions without their parents knowing it because of fear of parental response, lack of money, and lack of maturity; moreover, they’re not even mature enough to take care of themselves let alone take care of another person, especially if he or she has to do it by themselves. Most young girls don’t even consider abortion as a bad thing as long as you do it before a certain semester in the pregnancy. However, abortion is considered murder by some Americans.(Lyons, pg.10) Pro-lifers believe that human life begins at the moment of conception. Scientists identify that at the moment of fertilization the ovum takes on a entirely different destiny, life. Some pro-lifers believe that a woman has the right to go to bed with who she wants, but she can not choose death for her child. They believe it’s a direct violation of human rights. Victims of rape and/or incest would disagree about human rights. Rape or incest is a very emotional thing that a female can go through anytime in her life. 10% of females who have been raped by a man or someone in the family get pregnant and almost all of them have an abortion.(Lyons, pg.11) If a woman has a child through rape or invest she will be reminded of the incident. Just looking at the child can be constant reminder and the mother might be resentful towards the child. This situation can be hard on the child, mother, and the family. Pro-lifers believe that if a woman is raped she should have the child anyway but give it up for adoption. They believe abortion is an unnatural end of pregnancy. One cannot kill another human being just because they wished it wasn’t around. Scientific research has successfully shown that abortion causes many psychological side effects. It leaves the woman with many strong feelings about their decision. They feel sadness, wishing things could have been different and grief for a lost life. Guilt arises because they know a fetus represents an independent life. (Lyons, pg.11) Most of all mothers feel ashamed and embarrassed about her actions. Even years after the abortion, women tend to remember the regretful experience. They start to wonder what the baby would like and its birthday. Women should have the right to have an abortion as long as they don’t use it as birth control. I don’t feel like the government and pro-lifers should not get involved, it should be up to the woman and man of the child. Bibliography:
