Anne Frank
Anne Frank The setting for The Diary of Anne Frank is in a “Secret Annexe” in Amsterdam, Holland. Anne and her family are not the only people that are hiding in the “Secret Annexe,” the Van Daans live with them also. Anne draws a map in the book to show you a layout of the “Secret Annexe.” It’s pretty large, although with eight people living there, it’s quite crowded. The plot for the story was for Anne and her family to hide from the Germans until the war was over. Hiding was hard for the Franks and Van Daans since they had to be extremely quiet when using things and living in the “Secret Annexe.” Those families hid there for 25 months. The theme for The Diary of Anne Frank is to never lose hope, be patient, and be brave. Anne was very brave to give up her freedom and contact with friends and most family members to save her life. She never lost hope that the war would end either. She was also very patient to share a hiding place with seven other people. Anne Frank is the protagonist. Anne is a fourteen-year-old girl who likes to talk and writes in her diary, Kitty, about everything that goes on around her. She practices the Jewish faith, and because of that, she and her family go into hiding. She is very courageous and hopeful that the war will end soon. Anne has no religious freedom, or freedom what so ever, no contact with the outside world, a small living area, little food, and not much privacy. Through all this, Anne still maintained hope and a good outlook on life. The antagonists are the Germans. They want to rid the world of anyone who isn’t German, mostly the Jews. Their leader is Adolf Hitler. The Germans dropped bombs during the air strikes on Holland, as Anne said in her diary. The Germans also run the concentration camps where they take innocent people and made them work. They were extremely cruel to those who went. If they failed to do their tasks, the Germans themselves would kill them. It’s people like the Germans that forced Anne Frank and others that believe in the Jewish faith, to go into hiding in fear of their lives. I thought The Diary of Anne Frank was boring at first, but it got a little better. On a scale from 1 to 10, I would rate it as a 5. The book didn’t appeal to my interests, as I’m not such a fan of reading diary entries. I just didn’t like when Anne talked about everyday things, for example what happened at dinnertime two nights ago. I did feel pity for her and her family when they went into hiding. Life must have been very difficult to live with such little food and space. I would recommend this book to my friends whether I liked it or not for a good reason. Many of my friends do not share the same interests as I do when it comes to literature. I would tell them to read the book for themselves and find out whether it’s worth recommending or not. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. Bibliography:
