Essay on Orwell

I have just finished a steak dinner and half way through a slice of cheesecake when I realize that I have eaten well beyond my fill. This reminds me of Orwell’s essay on the decadence of language. I am inclined to be excessive when I can be because society is that way, particularly with the English language. Most people tend to distort their ideas by adding figures of speech that have little or no meaning because of its commonness, and pretentious language in order appear more academic. In Politics and the English Language, Orwell discusses this abuse of language that has become increasingly more fashionable especially in political writing. Orwell asserts that the trend is reversible by taking the necessary trouble to examine the bad habits of language that have been proliferated through imitation and pretension.
