Malignant aggression is truly destructiveness, practiced not for self-defense, but for its own sake, undertaken for the enjoyment that devastation brings, practiced not for defense, but for perverse satisfaction.John Dollard, et al, explained that frustration is a presupposition to aggression. In other words, in order for aggressive behavior to take place, one must first have a cause. This cause, according to Dollard, et al, is frustration. Dollard explained that although persons may not act out aggressively due to his or her frustrated feelings, these feelings still exist and have only been suppressed. Therefore, one has become equipped with the ability to restrain their aggressive behavior. This is the danger, according to Dollard et al. These suppressed feelings of frustration come out eventually in ways that can be destructive to others (overtly), as well as one’s self (turned inward). One who has allowed their frustration to accumulate within them may become aggressive by displacing his or her frustration on others as well as objects. An example of this would be when John comes home on Friday from work and begins kicking everything in site and yelling at his kids for having the T.V. too loud. The problem? John’s boss had been on his back all week to finish a proposal. When he finally met the deadline, after working well beyond office hours a few nights that week, John’s boss said the proposal was not adequate and that it needed major revisions. Frustrated, and knowing the proposal was good, John takes it back and starts from the beginning, revising and changing information to please his boss. He returns it the next day, and later receives a message on his voice mail from his boss stating the proposal is sufficient enough to go to the board, yet it could have been better. John...
