After being stuck with this reality, the once independent and rebellious Kahlo became overly obsessed and devoted to the life with Diego Rivera (110). In her self-portrait of “Diego and I”, she clearly sees herself as being dependent on Diego. The Diego painted on her forehead depicts her obsession with her lover. Soon after they were married, Frida found out that Diego had an affair with on of her younger sisters. The affair did not claim to bother her, Frida decided that she would live her life, while Diego would live his. Yet, deep in her heart she worried, and later commented, “ I have suffered two grave accidents in my life, one in which a street car ran me over; the other accident is Diego,” (Daniels 98). Despite Diego’s affairs with other women, he helped her artwork in many ways. Diego loved her work and was her greatest admirer. Frida, in turn, was Diego’s most trusted critic, and someday recognize her as the love of his life. The union between Frida and Diego was chaotic and in 1939, only ten years after their marriage, Frida decided to divorce him. However, the divorce did not last very long, in 1940 Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera were once again married.During her first year of marriage, Frida became pregnant.
