Hindenburgh 1937

h and both men Erick and Anna's beloved Karl are killed along with many more. Anna lives and she is terrified to go back to Germany to face her brother, but as Anna is preparing to leave America, she is stopped, and does not return to Germany. Before Karl was killed he had arranged for someone to meet Anna in America and help her to begin her new life there.I believe an important passage from the book is one that is towards the end. It is when Anna is speaking with Karl about the day her grandfather died and why she thought he wanted her to take the trip to America."He pulled my ticket from his bedside drawer. I thought he was telling me to make the crossing--to go without him and never come back to Germany. He knew what my life would be like without him, if I stayed. He knew what Kurt would plan for me."Anna raised her eyes to Karl's and found her torture mirrored there."But he wasn't, was he? He was trying to warn me not to make the trip. He knew it wasn't safe. He knew bcause you told him, but he never told me. Dear God, Karl, I've been such a fool. What is going to become of me, of us all?"I belive this is an important part of the book because it is where Anna finally realizes that she was wrong and that when Karl left he was trying to protect her. Anna also sees that she is a fool for not listening to Karl in the first place and also for falling for Erik's deceptions. In conclusion, I think this was a very well written book and it would be enjoyed by anyone who likes history and a little bit of romance....
