ea that these revolutionary women started a abolitionist movement which in turn transformed into a women’ rights movement because they witnessed the harsh ideals of slavery, but the fact the they enjoyed the Philadelphia Quaker religion, and that in turn swept them up into the abolitionist movement. People who have little knowledge of this time period have the misconception that these revolutionary women were moved by experience of slavery, but they were in fact moved by the second great awakening that interfered with the abolitionist movement. The very first women then inspired others, like Sojourner Truth and others to speak out openly, which lead to the new movement of women eager to gain rights. I feel the book is too deep for a reader that knows little about the subject. She also does not explain the other sides to the issue very well, which shows only her opinion. I feel that the religious movement started the abolitionist movement, but anyone who was proslavery oppose that issue. These women drew heavily on religious, or moral or ethical language and ideas.I feel that Kathryn Kish Sklar had every right to produce this piece because of the fact she has been involved in the study of women and the Women’s Right Movements since her days of college, if not earlier. She graduated from Radcliff College, Harvard University with a bachelor’s in Literature, and received her Doctorate in the field of History of Women from the University of Michigan. She worked at UCLA for 14 years before she transferred to the University of Binghamton. She has received numerous grants for her works on the study of women’s history, and also received many awards for her work (Kathryn Kish Sklar; 2). Her book gives the reader in depth information on the subject.
