Music lyrics come from artists just trying to express what they are feeling. Artists’ may function as role models in some people’s lives but there’s no way they can take the blame of behavior. "Music can make a good mood better and allow us to escape or work through a bad one," Christenson states (1, 2). A survey conducted by the Recording Industry Association of America found that many parents do not know what the lyrics are in the popular music their children listen to (“Media Use in America” 8). Parents should become more informed and concerned on what their children are hearing in their music. Not only the responsibility of the artists’ need to be lifted, society has to move beyond the grainy black and white approach of blaming lyrics and needs to open their eyes to see that parents have a strong influence on behavior (Novoselic 5). The Federal Communications Commision (FCC) has been known to remove songs from radio stations because of the content of the song. “It is a disgrace for the FCC to impose a violation on a radio station because they didn’t like the suggestive nature of a song,” states Hillary Rosen (4). For music to affect someone emotionally is common, but to assume that a song will always push someone too far is ridiculous. It depends on the type of person and what the lyrics say (Edwards 2). Futhermore, why is that rage there? Why is there that pressure? That’s what the community needs to find out. Music is indeed an important aspect on many teenagers’ everyday interaction.
