He has a disease that there is no cure for. It is carried by the mother and is passed to the baby. The effect of this disease is irreversible. It causes blindness, deaf, mute, hyper activity, hair loss, muscle defects, bone damage, brain damage, and eventually ends in Death. Throughout the movie, Lorenzo’s parents look for doctors who can find a cure for his disease. They even read up on the disease so that they might be able to find a cure for him. However their search was in vain. They also had to put up with people like their ignorant babysitter who didn’t want to read to Lorenzo because she said that he was brain dead. However they kept pushing and eventually Lorenzo’s father found a treatment. It was Olive oil. They fed it to him through tubes because he could not eat with his mouth. “Lorenzo’s oil” did what the doctors said couldn’t be done. It started reversing the effects of the disease.
