The press ridiculed Lucianofor being nothing but a pimp.Even though Luciano was in prison he still ruled the underworld. He gave ordersand made decisions all from his cell. Then in 1942 the luxury liner “Normandy” blew upin the New York harbor. US intelligence suspected that the German’s may have beenresponsible for the explosion. The US government needed help securing the harbor andwho better to ask than the man that controlled it, Lucky Luciano. Lucky gave the order tosecure the docks and there were no more problems in the New York harbor. He also toldhis connections in Europe to treat the US soldiers well. Since Lucky served his country he was rewarded with a pardon of his sentence. There was one condition to the pardon, he would never be able to set foot in his belovedAmerica again.
