She began a lifelong career as a writer and journalist after college. "She became a major feminist leader in the late 1960s and in 1971 co-founded MS Magazine, where she serves as contributing editor today. In 1971 she was a co-convener of the National Women's Political Caucus and in l972 helped found the MS Foundation for Women, which raises funds to assist underprivileged girls and women"(Steinem par. 2). In addition is she a founding member of the Coalition of Labor Union Women. Gloria has written , Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions in 1983 and Revolution from Within: A Book of Self-Esteem in l992 (Steinem par 2,).Steinmen, is very loud outspoken women. She will push her issues to be heard. She is known by the public, and interviewed all the time. In a recent interview she was asked, "What do you think are the origins of male violence against women? Is it rooted in a patriarchal society? Is it biological? Sociological? A desire for power and control?" She replied back by saying, "The origins of violence against women by men are not biological. If that were the case, it would exist in every culture. And it doesn't exist in every culture. There are tribal and less patriarchal cultures in which there is very little violence, or in which the violence is almost equal, you know, especially among boys and girls. But in any case, there is no organized violence. There is no frequency of rape and so on. So it can't be biological. It has to be social." Many journals shot down her response on her conclusion that it is biological. She faced public put-downs for her own beliefs. However, she still pushes for equality and the idea that it is biological.
