Queen Elizabeth I I choose this topic because there was a lot of information on this topic. I expected to learn about her family. I thought I would learn about the history of England and what part Elizabeth played in the reformation. This is were I got my information from: I.) Internet, The main search engine that I used for this project was at “www.yahoo.com” I found a lot of sites about Elizabeth, Anne, and also about Henry. Henry was the hardest person to find research on. II.)Library, I checked some encyclopedias to help me get more information on Queen Elizabeth I. III.)Staff members, I got information from Mrs. Lattin, Mrs. Keuhblebeck, and also from Mrs. Cunningham, they were very helpful. Problems I ran into were that some websites didn’t have the right information about Elizabeth and about the reformation. I couldn’t find much information about the reformation. I am proud of my project because I got a lot of information and this project was very easy to find the information for. I have a lot of valuable information that is very helpful and fun to read. The project was a very fun and exciting learning experience and it helped me understand more about Queen Elizabeth I, Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, Mary Queen of Scots, and it also helped my with the reformation. 1517-A German Priest named Martin Luther wrote down his objections (“ theses”) to indulgences on a large manuscript. REASON: He didn’t agree with buying indulgences. 1529-English Parliament on “Reformation Parliament.” REASON: Questioned whether King should have authority instead of Pope tongront annulments 1531-Elizabeth’s father, Henry VIII breaks from Catholic Church, and sets up Protestant National. REASON: Pope wouldn’t support divorce. 1531-King Henry VIII becomes head of church. 1533-Parliament passed “submission of the clergy.” REASON: A law that placed the church and clergy completely under Henry’s control. 1534-Parliament stops contributions to church by law lay people. 1536-1540-Dissolution of monasteries crown and gentry wanted land. 1539-Conflict ended. (Act of six articles) REASON: Commitment to Catholic religion clarified the faith (Anglican) 1542-1546-England fought Scottish war, defeated them and it cost a lot of money, Henry remained powerful. Queen Elizabeth loved clothing and was very fashionable, She was known for making the petticoat called a farthingale in England popular. She also made the bustle popular. The bustle made women look really wide at the hips. She dated King Phillip II of Spain, Prince Eric of Sweden who was known as “Iran the Terrible”, he was from Russia. She also dated two famous brothers Ferdinand of Austria and his brother Charles. Queen Elizabeth was known for defeating the Spanish Armada and she established the Protestant Church of England. Her reign was better known as “the golden age” She was well liked because she was very understanding, courageous, determined, and wise (sharp-witted). She was also moody and very arrogant. Not a well-known fact, Queen Elizabeth was put into prison in the Tower of London by her half sister Mary who was the Queen of England. She thought she was a threat to her power. Mary, Elizabeth’s sister was catholic and under reign she involved England in a war with France. Elizabeth became queen in 1558, when she was only 25 years old. Elizabeth had the loyalty and confidence of her people. She used her authority for the common good of her people. During her reign she was a great change in culture. Famous poets such as William Shakespeare wrote about Elizabeth. She refused to get married after she saw what happened to her sister who married a foreign prince. She always said, “God’s Death! My lord, I will have but one mistress [England] and no master.” Elizabeth ruled with a council of nobles. They handled foreign relations, drafted proclamations (ECT.) Elizabeth was a great speaker. Elizabeth was three years old when her mother Anne Boleyn was beheaded. Quote: “I know I have the body of a weak and feeble woman’ but I have the heart and stomach of a King and a King of England too.” Languages Known to Her: Greek, Latin, Spanish, French, and English.
