that Leroy is home all the time there is no excitement. It is just the same thing day after day. This rings true in many marriages in todays society. Many marriages today are boring and unfufilling. Couples are searching for something they may never find. Leroy and Norma Jean's marriage reminds me of my parents marriage, which is another reason that I feel their marriage is ordinary. I do not think that the problems in Leroy and Norma Jean's marriage were caused by a lack of love, but by a lack of compassion and consideration for the other person. That is what was missing from my parent's marriage as well. They loved each other, but they were not sure of how to show it or if they should. My parents spent twenty two years trying to figure out a way to make their marriage work and in the story Leroy is trying to figure out a way to make his marriage work, but he has no idea how. Leroy is not even sure if Norma Jean wants it to work. "She don't know what to make of you, coming home like this." There is no "normal" in todays society. There are so many different kinds of people and different opinions on reality, that normal can not really be determined. But in the grand scheme of things Norma Jean and Leroy are just like my parents and like everyone else in the world. Norma Jean and Leroy are just trying to figure out what they want from each other and themselves. ...
