Should Marajwa be legal
Should Marajwa be legal “Marijuana is a mixture of leaves, stems, and flowering tops of the Indian hemp-plant cannabis” The ultimate social conflict is war. To solve a conflict by using lethal weapons has always existed, and will continue to exist as long as humans are around. But, war does not necessarily mean that people die, or houses get blown up. The Drug War is a perfect example of a non-violent war. It is fought by politicians and drug (ab)users. I believe it is a desperate action by frightened leaders. Marijuana is by far the biggest drug problem in the world. Or is it a problem? Some people think that legalization of using, selling, and purchasing marijuana will lead to an end of the drug war. Obviously, there are people who believe the opposite. That is one of many points in the conflict of legalization. That is where my topic comes in. I believe that marijuana should expend as a medicinal, because it is proven to help and prevent several illnesses and diseases. The conflict is probably never to be solved. There will always be users and non-users. The debate, from where I see it, has potential to tone down, and become less of an issue. Marijuana has been proven in many surveys to help and prevent physical and mental illnesses. As a matter a fact, marijuana can be used for the treatment of over 100 different medical purposes. One of the most common uses of legal marijuana is for example migraine. It has a numbing reaction to your body, so pain and irritations will decrease. It can also enhance your thinking. When a person is under the influence of marijuana, he/she tends to think more creatively and deep. Many famous artists, in various areas, have admitted they smoke marijuana before they “work.” According to them, “Marijuana is a useful catalyst for specific optical and aural esthetic perceptions” (Hellman). If marijuana was to be legalized, great amount of the taxpayers money would be saved. Last year there were 400,000 arrests due to possession or usage of marijuana. If it was legal there would have been 0 arrests in America, and a whole lot of money saved. The average time served in prison for selling marijuana is four years. Think about that for a second… Yes, that’s right. That is three years longer than you serve for rape or manslaughter (www.legalize.com). Marijuana has also been called the “gateway” drug. But no one has ever proved that marijuana leads to other drugs. Yes, if you look at the statistics one will find that marijuana smokers has a greater chance to get into heavier drugs. But on the other hand, it also show that people who drink alcohol has even a greater chance than the marijuana users to slip into serious drug abuse. As this conflict carries on, you have to look at the other side of it: Marijuana is bad! If marijuana were open for all medical help, the country would turn upside down. Everyone knows how de-motivated one gets from smoking marijuana. You become a lazy coach potato. Work wouldn’t get done, and lots of people would loose their jobs. Marijuana needs to be strictly forbidden for all people. There shouldn’t be any medical marijuana, because if one has it the others want it too. Either you pay for the police force to take it off the streets, or you pay for the drug. If it was legal you would spend that same tax money straight to the dealer, or in the store. God hopes it won’t go that far. Marijuana is a “gateway” drug. So is alcohol. If one smokes frequently, he/she will sooner or later start to get tired with the same “high” every time. So, eventually when one reaches that point he/she will turn to a heavier drug, like cocaine. That is the major danger with smoking marijuana. It all goes together, marijuana leads to heavy drugs, and heavy drugs leads to doing crimes to finance the abuse. So, in the long run the non-smokers are the victims of marijuana. That is why I think marijuana should never, ever be legalized. Bibliography:
