Ki Cho Ja-Ki involves six breathing techniques that help tone the body’s internal organs and promote deep breathing. The motions start with a strong “Ki-Ahp”(a loud yell from within); Ki Cho Ja-Ki is made up of six special hand actions, done by spreading the fingers as wide as possible and extending the arms in a series of four different directions (Sareyvoth). Strong fingers and wrists are necessary for grasping and for leverage to apply the quick joint lock (Hallander, “Kuk” 69).Kicking techniques have great advantages because leg attacks contain more power than hand strikes (Hallander,“He” 62). Kicks help the martial artist move more effectively when there is distance among the martial artist and its opponent (62). Different styles of kicking techniques include the stretching kick, the sidekick, the spinning kick, and an arial kick (Tan).A drawback to the kicking techniques is the martial artist has to be focused andquick, otherwise the opponent will catch the kick before the martial artists leg is planted back on the ground (Hallander, “He” 62). To catch a kick the martial artist can use a “cross-hand” or an “X” block (a grabbing technique) (63). Defending the kick takes practice, the martial artist can catch the kick and put the opponent off-balance, or the martial artist can use a counter move (Hallander, “He” 63). A counter to a cross-hand grab is, using the opponent by grabbing the hands as a platform then launch into a back flip, while in midair give a quick kick to the opponent’s throat or chin.
