nted this blonde-haired, green-eyed doll so much, but something about her must have sparked my mother’s interest too. “She’s perfect” mom said as she looked down and smiled. We brought my new friend up to the cashier and put her on the counter. “Fifty-three dollars” the clerk said with a smile. My eyes got big. Fifty-three dollars to a five year old is an unbelievable amount of money. I couldn’t believe my mother was spending all this money on me, for one toy! As the cashier handed my mother the change, I took the bag off the counter and clutched it to my chest. I was proud of my new toy.As we walked out to the car my mother told me not to open the package until we got home so I wouldn’t lose anything inside. After what seemed like hours of driving, we pulled in the driveway. Before my sister could see what I had, I ran upstairs and shut the door. Slowly I ripped the top of the box off and dumped everything in the box onto the floor. My mother walked in and sat down beside me. We found the birth certificate and my mother started to read. “ Elizabeth Michelle, born July thirteenth at 4:06 AM, at the Babyland General Hospital. She is twenty-one inches long, and it says here she likes vanilla ice cream.” I looked at my mother and smiled. We filled out the adoption papers together that day, and put them in the mailbox. I finally had my very own Cabbage Patch Kid.Every child has one toy that they always remember. Mine was Elizabeth. I played with her until I turned ten. Then I left her at my grandma’s house, where she is still sitting on a bookshelf. It is amazing how one commercial can affect a child as much as that one commercial affected me. The commercial made the doll seem like a real baby. The Cabbage Patch Kid dolls grabbed the attention of millions of little girls.
