To run or not to run Donald Trump
To run or not to run Donald Trump To run, or not to run, that is the question. Through the ages, the great land that we live in, The United States of America, has had many great presidents come and go. From the founding father George Washington to the controversial William Clinton. Many of these presidents had a good reason for even wanting to have this challenging job, whether it was their true virtue of being a man or having the support of the whole nation. As we enter the gateway into the millennium, a new challenger enters the pathway. Donald Trump, a billionaire, real estate tycoon, and an international monetary icon. With all this under his belt, one has to wonder what he has to accomplish in running for president. Right now, he lives in his New York high rise penthouse with his name all over his building, appropriately named TrumpTowers. Now when you compare the building that houses this front-runner and compare it to the picture on the back of a twenty dollar bill, one can see many differences. First, this building, the White House, will never be able to bear his name, as do many of his establishments. Also the size is an issue, Donald Trump hasn't lived on the second floor of any building in many years. This all brings about a question that Stone Phillips asked in a recent interview on Dateline NBC. "How serious are you about this?" Phillips asks (Phillips). The bold answer came out in no time, and had a very earnest tone to it. "I'm looking at it very seriously. I mean you look out the window and you see all of what I've got going and all that I have to loose." Trump replies Being a candidate for presidency, having everyone take you serious would have a major effect on the turn out. But Trump says that he doesn't think of himself as a "great promoter" but more as a "great builder and conceptualizer." Back in the early 1990's, the real estate market that he surrounded himself with crashed. He took a loss of over $9,000,000. This money that he used came not from him, but from his trusting banks. Would he play the country like this? Sources say not. In Biographical Monthly, prior to his even thinking about running for president, Trump can be quoted "that no matter what the job, he would give all his money to get the best end result, if that was the price of course." (Reily 34). when comparing that to the a question from Phillips, "how much would you spend." "If I ran, I would spend as much as necessary for me to at least have a shot." Trump replies. " Even if it took 30-40 million dollars." That seems to be large sum of money, even for a billionaire. These figures may be a guestamation , but no matter what, they would be federally matched. And would be accepted graciously. As the deadline for the nomanations come closer, and looking at where Trump could very well end up calling home, seems to be nearer. To take a job not for the money, the high social position, the atoritty, or the power, one asks, what's left? To accomplish something only 42 people have done out of 6 billion, is good enough reason for Donald Trump to run for President of the United States, and thats why he is.
