This article is about training, and its name is “Are You Sabotaging Your Training Videos?” Training videos are a powerful tool that could be used for training, but the question raised is whether employers are learning form this medium. The author of the article suggests about 12 things that should not be done.The first thing not to do it to teach the wrong way. It is important to show how the task is done in the correct way. The second thing not to do is to push the time limit. The videos must be brief and concise and it must be considered that the average adult attention span is 12 minutes. The talking head should not be abused. The camera should not only focus on the narrator. Real life scenes, employee interaction, demonstrations, and customer testimonials should be added to make the video more attracting. It also should be noted that the upper management needs to be in on the video’s direction in order not to delay the video. The HR specialists must be involved not only in the script but also in the actual shoot of the video, and not leave it to the video crew. A detailed script must be provided for the video crew to make sure everything goes the right way. Another important issue is to check the video for proper volume, cracks, and pops, and any other audio defects because a viewer will not listen to a video with poor audio. Also the video should not try to fool the viewer by having unrealistic scenes, or by the actors over rehearsed. Star employees should be showcased regardless of their acting ability. The viewers should not be kept guessing and confused; the video must be clear. It is important also not to neglect the background detail because the viewer will probably notice any problems in the background.
