USI PR RELEASE
USI PR RELEASE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN INDIANA ANNOUNCES OPENING OF $4.1 MILLION RECREATION AND FITNESS CENTER EVANSVILLE, IN, Nov. 21, 2000 – The University of Southern Indiana started construction on the new $4.1 million Recreation and Fitness Center on Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999. Funding for the new building will come from bonds that will be paid by a 1.5 percent increase in student fees. To have a new fitness facility on campus, the USI Student Government Association has agreed to support the university’s decision to accommodate the needs of the students and faculty. In order to be completed by the expected date, Kinkle and Sons, contractors of the new fitness center, have setup the construction of the building into three unique phases. James Kinkle, head supervisor of construction, stated, “The building is expected to be over 45,000 square feet. With a building this size, it is impossible to build it all at one time without doing it in sections.” The facility will include three basketball courts, a suspended track above the courts, an area for weight lifting and exercise, showers, lockers and office space. The programs the current Fitness Center now offer will transfer to the new facility. “The expected completion of the third phase of construction is March of 2008. By this time, the building will be completely finished and students and faculty can enjoy the new accomplishment USI has to offer,” stated Glenna Bower, USI Fitness Center Coordinator. USI is proud of their latest addition to the campus that is recognized across the tri-state. The new facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art exercise equipment and quality educational programs will be available for those students in need of health fitness Bibliography:
