hey were afraid the adults would just make the situation worse. perhaps these juveniles have never seen or experienced the positive aspects of life. Maybe if they had access to prevention centers before they started their life of crime they could be saved along with hundreds of innocent people. A child who is ten years old should not be sentenced to a juvenile system or an adult system. They should instead be sentenced to a psychiatric center, where they could be evaluated. An evaluation would help to explain there violent behavior .The cause might be cultural or social problems such as the neighborhood they grew up in or the people they associated themselves with. Whatever the cause, counseling will give them a chance to learn the difference between right and wrong, so when they are released they wont be literally insane from being held captive from society for such a long period of time. This period is the most crucial developmental stage for any child, adolescence. Juveniles who commit homicide, should be treated differently than those who commit lesser crimes. These juveniles took someone's loved one away and should be aware of their consequences. Therefore they deserve the same punishment as an adult. These juveniles are aware that what they did was wrong. According to Anthony Durst, a juvenile who was sentenced to an adult system, knowing he would go back to a real prison made him think twice before ever committing another crime. "I'm not coming back here," Durst stated. Durst said juvenile systems are too easy. Anytime he or his friends were placed in the juvenile system, they were back on the streets stealing cars the second they were released .
