The adoption of underprivileged children, the death of William, and the devotion of Victor and Elizabeth are examples of scenes dominated by emotions. Clearly you can see that Mary Shelley was successful in creating a Gothic novel that includes elements of Romanticism.The fact that Mary Shelly had an isolated upbringing is represented in her somewhat Gothic novel. She felt her parents constantly were neglecting her. Since her parents were of high social class and integrity, a significant amount of their time was not spent at the home. This is why Mary Shelly creates this hideous and unwanted character. She is in a way, reflecting how she felt about herself at this time. Her rational was that if no person desired her presence, it was merely due to the fact that she was repulsive, or gruesome. Also, in a way she is giving out a profound moral message. Do not bring life into the world if you are not willing to give it love. This was a lesson that Mary Shelly learned throughout her life.Victor had the knowledge and the will power to create life; but he lacked the compassion for his creature. The monster in fact had more compassion than his creator did. “ The monster is at once more intellectual and more emotional than his maker; indeed he excels Frankenstein as much as Milton’s Adam excels Milton’s God in Paradise Lost”(Bloom 215). Victor’s lack of compassion and failure to love; lead to the monster’s downfall and his later demise. Victor tried to hard to create life and act like God. He unlike God had no heart or compassion for the life he had created; and if he did then it would have caused a different outcome in the novel. “ I collected the instruments of life around me, that I might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet (56).” This is one of the many examples ...
