I am a very firm believer in a free market economy. Where the invisible hand of competition keeps business in check. I believe that this type of business benefits the consumer by keeping prices low and quality high. I also think that some monopolies are beneficial to us. Microsoft for example, has a superior product in which consumers have chosen make it a monopoly. The government should not be able to break up this company, unless it is proven that they are mistreating the consumer. Although the government should keep a watchful eye on big businesses to make sure they are not misusing their position. I do not believe in affirmative action even though I am considered a minority. When asked, I do claim my minority race. I also claim veterans preference. Do I think its fair if I get a job or government money because of my skin color or veteran status? No. But as long as certain government programs are in effect I will use them to my fullest advantage. Even though I do benefit from some of these programs, if it were up to me, I would get rid of affirmative action. We should all start at the same place, if some of us are more prepared than others, then that’s fine, but no one should get a head start. Our country needs a large military. Our best defense is never to fight. If we continue to downsize our military, and spend less money on training our troops, other countries may see us as weak. They may interpret this weakness as an opportunity and attack. The cold war may be over but communism is not dead. As a veteran I know first hand our military is using outdated equipment and is not trained well enough. About one tenth of my time in the military was spent training for war. Why didn’t we spend more time training? Training cost money and our unit did not have enough money to train adequately. In conclusion I believe Liberals are trying to create too big of a government. Personal property and personal freedom needs to be protected from the government. Our economy needs to be run by business men, not politicians. We need more police on the streets to stop our rising crime rates. Our country needs to be run by a conservative government.
