Once Huck fakes his own death bykilling the boar, he escapes and that is when he overcomes his shadow. Soon after heescapes, Pap dies, and that is the end of that antagonist.Right after Pap is found dead, a new antagonist, id, is formed. With theintroduction of the King and the Duke comes new characteristics of evil. They introducedeception, dishonor, and the continuous characteristic of greed. They almost seem likechildhood bullies of that era. Twain might have felt a connection to these characters, orcreated them out of experiencing people just like this sometime in his life. Huck comesacross the King and the Duke while trying to find Cairo, and they stumble upon Hucksraft. They soon find out that Huck has a run away slave and black mail Huck into makinghim and Jim their personal helpers. The king and the Duke could symbolize the grasp ofsociety on a young childs mind. Through black mail and deception they lure Huck in,much like society trying to conform people into believing whats right. Many kids mightnot know any better, and f they do, they soon find out that its too late to escape the handsgrasp of society in their minds. It is mostly because of the fact that too many other peoplehave already conformed and out of fear, they conform themselves and never break out ofsocietys views. Huck is presented with the difficult task of overcoming society with theking and the duke. Only out of fear did it take him as long as it did to escape the king andthe duke.
