"Shock-jock," Howard Stern has taken his Saturday night television show on CBS and in most markets quadrupled the ratings in that time slot for the 18-34 year old male demographic. It should not be the responsibility or even the job of the FCC or any other wacky Right Wing philanthropist group to tell John Q. Public what he can see, hear, and read; that is John Q. Public's job. Censors are only performing a great disservice to the humble people of this country. Personally, I find it obscene and insulting the way the government tries to control our lives. To discover that someone has decided that I am not capable of making intelligent choices leaves me speechless. It is my choice, and mine alone to do as I please, with certain limitations. If something is offensive to others, there is always a choice that can be made to view or hear, or simply to turn it off and/or tune it out. Surely the millions of dollars pumped into censorship each year could be better spent on feeding starving families or building a shelter for homeless people. How ironic is it that government officials spend our tax dollars to block us from what we want to see and hear? Morally, censorship is wrong and a violation of our free will. I certainly do not feel that this country should develop any loose ethics or shoddy morals, but give the people what they want! As Americans we need to stand in unison for our rights.
