He had respect for himself and others around him, which is what made him such a great person. He influenced many people with this trait and still people try to use him as a model of behavior. He had great self-respect and people followed him for that. He was an intelligent man. He studied law in London and developed a large law practice. His interests soon, however turned to the misfortune others. He lived like the lowliest citizens of India would. He sewed his own clothes and ate poor foods and encouraged others to do the same to show their disapproval of Britain’s control over India. He also had a great amount of respect toward others around him. Although he was Hindu he was open to peoples beliefs in other religions. He also was interested in the rights of others. He led thousands of Indians to the sea to make their own salt to try to make them independent of others. He spent much of his life trying to win India’s independence from Britain. He would also try to solve conflicts without the use of violence so that no one was injured. At the age of 78 he went on a hunger strike to try to get the Muslims and Hindu’s to stop their fighting, the fast almost killed him. Gandhi had respect for property. He sought to find resolutions through non-violence, which would help, preserve the land. His religion also taught him to respect others possessions which he did do. He did have respect for authority in a sense. He did not disrespect the British or Indian government although he was place in jail several times for his beliefs and nonviolent actions.
