phish Dr. Phillip W. Long, a Canadian psychiatrist set up the website I researched www.mentalhealth.com. It was very thorough in listing all the mental illnesses that affect over 19 million people worldwide and the most common psychiatric drugs that treat them, which there are 72 in total. I was shocked to learn that the majority of people who have severe mental illness are not treated, due to the stigma that is associated with being diagnosed. There are eight category headings that the disorders are placed under and they are as follows, childhood, anxiety, mood, personality, eating, substance related, cognitive, and schizophrenia and other psychotic related disorders. You can click on to the different types of disorders and learn more about the diagnostic criteria, the behaviors, symptoms, and other associated features linked to the disorder. I was disappointed to see that the website offered no information on minority groups in general and what mental illnesses affect them as a whole. It was pretty much set up to help people learn more about mental illnesses in general. This website is helpful to someone who has been newly diagnosed or thinks that a loved one may be showing signs of having an illness and wants to learn more about the illness and what their options are for treatment and recovery, provided that there is one. The site also shows the treatments available and what adverse affects may arise from the medications. I found the website interesting because of all the disorders, and treatment options listed, it would be helpful if I was writing a paper for psychology, but it wasn't at all helpful in what I was assigned to look for and present to the class Bibliography:
