shark attack So what exactly are the odds of being eaten alive by Jaws? If you fear shark attack, you should never fly, drive, or step outside your house (you will be struck by lightning.) The truth is, you have much more to fear from these threats than from shark attack. The odds of a shark attack are one in five million. Fewer than one hundred people are attacked each year by sharks, and most of these are provoked. The majority of these attacks are in warm, waist deep water. Still worried? Well, Following are some tips to keep you safe from Jaws. 1. Avoid areas where numerous sharks are present, especially at dusk and at night. 2. Don't swim with pets in shark-infested waters. 3. Swim in groups, isolation makes you a prime target. 4. Blood attracts sharks, don't swim with open wounds. (There is no evidence that menstrual blood attracts sharks.) 5. Shiny materials attract sharks, don't wear these. 6. If shark appears, swimmers should leave water as soon as possible, with no erratic movements. If these tips are followed, and swimming is done with a little common sense, you will have many happy excursions to the beach, without meeting Jaws. As for that lightning... Bibliography:
