At first glance it would look as if oil had no role in agriculture, but it does play an important part; without oil, or gas, the machinery used to plant, harvest and process crops would not run. Of course there are alternative sources of energy, but for the moment oil is the energy source of choice. Oil is an integral part of industry, it is refined and becomes gasoline which in-turn powers gasoline engines, which can be used for transportation, simple and complex machinery and in various other fields of industry. In the domestic situation, oil is used in our cars, boats and airplanes. Crude oil, once refined, makes it possible for quick and easy transportation around our world and around our homes. Water is a nessesity of life. Oil is not. Oil, for the time being is the worlds largest energy source, supplying 40% of the worlds energy. However, alternate energy sources can be found making the use of oil obsolete. Without the discovery of oil, people would still function and life would still go on as normal. Soon this lack of oil will be a reality;“If we continue consuming oil at present rates, known reserves will be depleted in about 40 years.” The fact of the matter is, oil is not a necessity, never has been, and most likely never will be. Oil is luxury in our lives and has been since its discovery. In the past, oil has been used by humans all around the world to aid in their everyday life. Whether it be to add light to a dim cave, to lubricate a motorized plough, or to run an automobile used to take children to school.
