This concern of the WTO with environmental aspects is illustrated through the subsidies given by the WTO for environmental protection and agreements dealing with product standards, food safety, and intellectual property protection. More over, the system puts emphasis on carrying out rules that would enable countries to obtain an efficient allocation of scarce resources, which is less wasteful. Another aspect recognized n the rules of the WTO is that it favors health and safety, through protecting the environment and endangered species, over trade and benefits from trade. Finally a point that must be made clear is that the role of then WTO is not setting rules for environmental protection, rather it is the importance that these rules should be acquired by its member states with no violations.
