xarmisticex ARMISTICE About the Author: Bernard Malamud was raised in a non-Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn ,New York. His parents were Russian Jewish emigrants, they owned a grocery store. Most of his stories reflect his early family life. Earned a masters degree from Columbia University. He taught evening classes at High Schools in Brooklyn and Harlem as well as writing three novels in the process. Two of his stories won Pulitzer prize. He is famous for his moral fiction writing. Literary Analysis: Armistice Pg. 912 Author: Bernard Malamud Setting: A deli in a Scandinavian neighborhood in Brooklyn. Plot summary: An old man owns a small grocery store. His name is Morris he has a son named Leonard who really cares about his fathers health and feelings. Morris has a habit of listening to the radio but it hurts him because of all the bad news about the Jews. A delivery man by the name of Gus drops off meat and always seems to have something to say about the news. This hurts and angers Morris but he never shows it and that ends up hurting him. Leonard does not like Gus because he knows that he is hurting his father. One day Morris cannot hold his anger in and goes off on Gus and this is when we see that Gus is prejudice. Character log: Morris-Store owner, old man, Leonard-Morris' son, caring, loving, thoughtful Gus-delivery man, prejudice, mean Questions: 1). I don't like Gus but I feel sorry for him in away because I don't think he knows how it feels for someone to that to him. 2). It maybe because he sees a weakness in them and he uses it to try and make him self feel better. 3). Morris was a man of that time, he knows what happens and maybe because of family he's had 4).Yes he should because it affects him and he has a right to know what is going on in the world even if it huts him it is his decision 5).The two conflicts are alike because they are both caused by prejudice people. 6). They don't really compare because Gus just hates people that have done nothing wrong. 7).I think that there is alot because people get the wrong impression of a person by just looking at them and try to judge them without even knowing them.
