2pac
2pac Did the Rap/HipHop culture contribute to their murders? Tupac Shakur was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1971. Early in his life, he moved to Baltimore, ND, where he attended The Baltimore School, Tupac led a lasting impression on his teachers and was showing tremendous potential. Unfortunately, Tupac was unable to continue his training. He moved to Oakland, California with the rest of his family. That’s when Tupac began “Hanging with the wrong crowd”(Shontae W.). Tupac later got into the rap and acting business, he was dedicated to both rap/hiphop and acting. For some reason rap was a way for Tupac to express how he felt and the things he had experienced in his life. Tupac was very real, whatever was on his mind he said it in his lyrics. Other rappers would get mad at him because he might say something about them, but like I said he was true to the game and didn’t care what the outcomes may be. Not held back by his lack of formal education, Tupac joined the Rap group Digital Underground as a dancer. Not long before the group achieved award winning success, Tupac released his own album “2pacalypse Now”, which was also a success. The hit single “Brenda’s Got A Baby” launched Tupac’s career like a rocket. His stunning talent also hot him a role in the motion picture “Juice”. Tupac eventually released a second album “Strictly for my Niggaz,” which was an even bigger success. The highlight of Tupac’s acting career came when he appeared in “Poetic Juice” besides Janet Jackson. The role made Tupac a household name and showed the world that music may not be Tupac’s number one thing. In the midst of a role in the movie “Above the Rim” and a Platnum album “Me against the world,” Tupac’s rising career was snagged. He was brought up on sexual assault charges by a woman he met at a nightclub (“Short Life of Tupac”). Hours before Tupac would be found guilty, Tupac was robbed at gun point by men whose intent and purpose is still uncertain. Tupac was eventually released at over $1 Million in bail. After his release, Tupac answered his critics by releasing his best album, “All eyes on me.” “All eyes on me” has currently sold around 6 million copies, which is revolutionary for a double cd. Especially in Hip Hop music. As the album climbed the charts, Tupac also completed work on two films, one entitled “Gridlock.” While on his was to do charity work, Tupac Shakur was assissinated by the unknown gunmen on September 13, 1996. “Gangsta” rapper Tupac Shakur died Friday from wounds suffered six days ago in a car-to-car shooting an a busy street a few blocks off Las Vegas Strip. This is what happened. Suge and Tupac decided to go hang out. They went to the MGM. They were talking to people in the lobby. Then one of Tupac’s homies glanced over and saw a man that goes by the name of Orlando Anderson or “Baby Lane”. Lane stole Tupac’s friend’s Death Row necklace so Tupac went over to him and questioned him about it and them a big fight broke out (The Night of Tupac). The fight lasted a few seconds and them Tupac and Suge left. This fight was caught on video. Later on that night, after the Tyson fight, Tupac and Suge were on there way to a Suge’s 662 club. A white Cadillac pulled up to them. It is believed that Baby Lane or one of Baby Lane’s boys came out and unloaded in Tupac. Tupac tried to jump into the back seat, but didn’t make it. Suge then took a U-turn which is questionable because it is away from any hospital. When they opened fire, they left Tupac in bad condition and Suge grazed in the head by a bullet. Tupac then died 7 days later. Shakur, 25, was pronounced dead at 4:03 p.m. Friday at University Medical Center. He died of respiratory failure (Dr. Dewitt). Since his death, there still are many rumors why Shakur was murdered. One of the most prevalent was that Shakur was a victim of an ongoing was between two Los Angeles-based gangs, the Bloods and the Crips. Shakur associated with several members of the Bloods, and his boss and mentor at Death Row Records, Marion “Suge” Knight, also had ties to the Bloods (Sgt. Kevin Manning). Another thing is that Shakur died as a result of a professional rivalry between the West Coast’s most prominent rap label, Death Row Records, and the East Coast’s most successful hip hop label, Bad Boy entertainment (Deon Waters). That’s why people think that one out of the three of these is true. It could have been gang-related, East/West coast feud or maybe even have to do with the record label he is working for because they also seemed to have problems within themselves. Love him or hate him, there is no denying that Tupac Amaru Shakur has left a distinct impression on American culture. In his twenty-five years, Tupac has touched the lives of millions through his music and movies. Many fail to acknowledge the work Tupac did for his community or his strong commitment towards improving life for the people after him (Bralon Young).
