"), Blood, Sweat and Tears ("Hi-De-Ho") and James Taylor ("You've Got a Friend").James Taylor and Carole King were close friends, and he continued to encourage her to pursue her solo career. Kings 1970's release, Writer, was a flop. But Carole struck gold in 1971, with the release of Tapestry. That album stayed on the charts for over six years and became the best-selling album of the era. Tapestry also scored a pair of hit singles, "So Far Away" and the chart-topping "It's Too Late," whose flip-side was "I Feel the Earth Move. In 1975, King and Goffin again paired to create Thoroughbred, featuring James Taylor, David Crosby and Graham Nash. She later married her frequent songwriting partner Rick Evers, who died a year later of a heroin overdose. In the 80s, King moved to Idaho, becoming an Environmental activist. She took a six-year hiatus before releasing City Streets, which featured Eric Clapton. 1993's Colour of Your Dreams included a cameo from Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash. King made her Broadway debut in 1994 in the drama Bloodbrothers. Carole King is one of pop music's most gifted and successful composers, with work recorded by everyone from the Beatles to Aretha Franklin. Recently King appeared with her daughter in a Gap commercial. She still sounds terrific after all these years....
