TV and Music

TV and Music Television is something that everyone that is my age can recall on when they were younger. It has definitely been the greatest influence on me since the day I was born to this world. Television is a great and most likely the best source around the world for information on what’s happening everywhere, and probably the most prolific form of entertainment in most first world countries. TV (short for television) was the host of my favorite show when I was a kid, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That was the show that had the most influence on me when I was younger. TV is the greatest source for in-home entertainment and information. Music is another form of entertainment that influenced me greatly. It is also found everywhere and in every culture around the world, either in one form or another. It can found almost everywhere we go today in our culture. Radio, CD’s, cassette tapes, records, eight tracks, and the new .mp3 format are just to name a few of the ways that music is circulated through our society today. My greatest influence on the TV was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Watching the show became a lifestyle for me. The first thing to do, when the craze started, was to collect all of the figurines. Once this was done, there were great wars between them. Setting up walls with pillows, and loading the “pizza thrower”. This was the ultimate toy to have. It could knock down walls, then start taking’ out the enemies behind it. The side that had this was basically chosen to be winner by default. If that wasn’t enough watching the show was the most important thing to do. While watching the I usually would not blink to miss a second of it. Other wise I could miss a characters new move or even a new character appearing. The leader of the turtles was a rat, and their greatest enemy was a mutated man called the “Shredder”. The turtles main goal or obligation was to save the city from any evilness. That is what made them heroes to me and so many other kids. The whole hero idea is what made the show; it gave the kids something to look up to. With weird creations like this you could not help to bring the imagination out in a child. This was something that happened to me. I believe that it also changed children’s favorite food to pizza. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brought the imagination in me and many other children my age. The turtle craze was subdued as we all grew older and newer shows came about, but it’s still my favorite TV show. I can remember one Halloween when the show had first came out. Every boy wanted to be a turtle. Stores sold out of costumes as fast as they could put them on the shelf. Since I could not make it to the store my mother made me a costume. My costume ended being the best one out there. Trick-or-treating was so much fun that year. My friends and I were running through lawns freely, playing with our weapons, and doing their moves without a care because it was Halloween. All of this was brought out, and we were all rewarded with mountains of candy that seemed to last a lifetime. The influence on me was a great one, but I was not the only one to be influenced by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There were at least little amounts of influence on every man my age. It was not just watching the show, and playing with the figurines, it was a lifestyle that I wish I could go back to, one with no worries or homework, but mainly using the imagination. A lifestyle that made my childhood better because everyone needs something or someone to look up to when they are young. Our society gives TV a bad name, though it is something that enhances our childhood, if we had the privilege of watching it. Saying that it causes people, especially younger, to do bad things because of what they see on TV. Also saying that it causes them to be lazy. If anything it makes them more active by playing with figurines or playing with their friends. TV is a tool to younger people; they know that what they see is not something to be duplicated. For younger people it is their major form of entertainment and there is nothing wrong with that. It was mine, and I don’t think that because I watched the turtles that I want to go do what they do. Music today has come a very long way from how our society went about listening to it, and performing it. We now have many more genres of music than ever before. There is now a genre for almost every type of listening style. From classical music to hard-core death metal, there is quite a spread spectrum. I believe that this allows everyone in our society to react differently, and allows and accepts that we are all different. Music is a way to express our emotions or to change moods that we are in. Listening to some songs can either lift your spirits when you are feeling down or can hype you up for an activity that you would be engaging in. The music that has impacted me the most is known as Pop music. Pop or popular, was different when I was younger than it is today. Today Pop music is mainly controlled by so called “boy bands”. When I was younger it was, well at least I believe, much better, with bands such as MC Hammer, and Vanilla Ice. Those guys were influential to the way I thought, the way I dressed, and the hairstyles. I wanted to look like them because they were known as the cool people, our role models. Nowadays I listen to a more wide variety of music. The oldies are now one of my favorite genres of music. I always despised the oldies station as a kid driving in the car with my parents. Now I can’t get enough of them. It also seems that I know a lot of lyrics, like its embedded in my head. I usually listen to the oldies for the fun of singing them or to reflect on the past. To pump myself up for working out or to play a sport I like to listen to hard rap or metal. This kind of music just gets my adrenaline flowing through my veins and gives me this natural high, and just gets me ready to go. One of my favorite metal bands is actually a local to the Chicago-land area. They are known as Disturbed. They have many high adrenaline songs with crazy beats. One of my favorites is called Stupify. It is a very upbeat and high paced song. It gets me more pumped than any other song that I have heard. Another genre of music that I enjoy is the rap section of the music world. I enjoy listening to rappers perform because of the stories that they talk about, the hardships of living in poverty. When I listen to this type of music it gives a rush and also allows me to reflect on my childhood, because I lived in a similar way until my mother had met my new father. We roughed it a little until my mother did meet my new father. He gave a better financial status, and gave us a new home in the suburbs, and out of the city. The technology of music today has grown with leaps and bounds. From records to CD’s the sound quality is remarkably better, and the size is much smaller. Now we are entering the digital age and the future will hold music in almost life-like quality and very small discs. The new rave is the mp3 format of music. It is the music format that is found on the Internet and is becoming very popular very rapidly. Mp3 stands for the m- peg layer 3 formats. They are a compact version of the .wav file, and can come in good qualities. However the only downside is the fact that most of these files are corrupted or are of very bad quality. Today, technology has morphed the television into a more efficient tool for humans. Not only is HDTV (High Definition Television) just reaching the common market, but Web TV has also surfaced, allowing users to use their television as an Internet tool and entertainment center at the same time. TV has come a very long way from the time when I was a child. This just allows children these days to have a greater form of entertainment. Web TV now allows anyone to access the Internet through his or her televisions. This will have a great affect on children now a day even greater than music or any other form of influences on children. Other forms have impacted them but not as great as the television influence on everyone. Soon enough TV will be totally interactive, and readily available to everyone. Music and television combined has shaped and formed who I am today. Almost everything in my life has been based on reaction to either music or television. Music and television are the most influential of all media sources in my opinion. Music can alter your state of mind or being, and lyrics to the song can easily influence the weak minded. Television is one of the most prolific forms of entertainment in our country. Almost everyone has seen television shows or listened to music by radio or through some other source. The both of them combined have given me inspiration and my certain mind set that I have now, and I believe that they will both continue to influence the youth around world, similar to the effects that they had on me.
