slavery
slavery Slavery started back in the times of the ancient Egyptions. The Pharoahs would force the Jews to make their pyramids and buildings. Many Jews died because of the labour or mistakes with the work. In the Bible there is the story of how Moses led the Jews away from the Egyptions, but ended up wandering the desert for fourty years. Thousands of years later, blacks were taken to America to become slaves. It all started in 1619 when the Spaniards began to import slaves from Africa to America to replace Indians who had died from slave work or disease. More slaves began to arrive in America over the years. The slaves would have to work all day with no breaks. They would get whipped if they disobeyed the slave driver. Work the sleaves would have to was pick cotton, plow fields, farm, and some slaves would be servants in the house. The servants would serve their owners dinner, cook, wash floors, and watch their owners children. Skipping ahead to 1775, the first slavery abolitionist society is founded by Anthony Benezet. This means they were trying to get rid of slavery. Years later, in 1808, U.S.A bans the slave trade in America, but people still smuggle in Africans. In 1820, Missouri admits to being a slave state, when supposed to be a free state. Now all states north of the latitude 36 30 cannot have slavery. Now across the sea in England, they abolish slavery in 1838. Along with England, Jamaica, Barbados, and other west indian countries abolish slavery. Bibliography: n/a
