Effective communicators attend to the nonverbal aspects of space, time, and energy as well as to choice of words and actions. As they move from situation to situation, building and strengthening relationships is a primary focus.Listening is important. When a leader is acutely aware of other’s thoughts, feelings, desires and the meaning of their actions, then they are truly aware of that person. As a leader listens and acknowledges other’s needs, rapport is created, and trust established.Leadership exists when people are no longer victims of circumstances but proactively participate in creating new circumstances. When a leader operates in this domain of generative circumstance, a situation is created in which human beings deepen their understanding of reality and become more capable of participating in the unfolding of that reality.Finally, holding to vision is a call to service that takes personal courage. A leader may leave what was familiar and move out and away from the initial perception of self. This moving away from self-perception does not happen without doubt and/or fear. It is a call to redefine what is possible, to see a vision of possibilities. It requires the leader to undertake the necessary self-evaluations and state in concrete terms the requirements in achieving that vision, that new mental model and perception. It is at this critical crossroad, in my newly forming opinion and knowledge of leadership, that a leader, or anyone with this understanding, in fact, can go outside the imaginary boundaries preset by society and create a new vision, a new reality and a new world for self and others....
